MCLIU represents the course lecturers of McGill at the Fneeq Federal Council

Representatives of MCLIU were present at the federal council of our union affiliate Fneeq, the Fédération Nationale des Enseignants et Enseignantes du Québec, which was held on November 13, 14, and 15 in Quebec City. The federal council, one of the governing bodies of the federation, is held twice a year and contributes to the development of the federation’s direction by outlining its general policies.

At this event, union representatives of teachers and lecturers from Quebec CEGEPs, private schools, and universities met to discuss common current issues and the federation’s response to them, but also to share their experience and expertise, and to support the negotiations and struggles some of us face.

During the council, we approved motions to support labour unions presently in difficult negotiations, namely Place Rouanda-CSN, Maxi Rouyn Noranda-CSN, Provigo Témiscaming-CSN, Ville de Terrebonne-CSN, Kronos (CSN). We also showed our support to CEGEP teachers in their demands for a fair recognition of their work, by joining them in front of the Parliament at the Operation Disruption 21.

At the same meeting, we elected a new representative at the federal bureau of Fneeq, our union communications officer, Stefana Lamasanu. The upcoming response to the Charter of Values was also debated at this council, with the final position of the federation to be published in December.
