AGSEM unit III Unit Assembly & Special General Assembly

We would like to invite you to our first Unit Assembly of this academic year with a temporary adjournment for a Special General Assembly.  This meeting will be held on Friday, October 12, from 16:30-18:30 in room 0100 of the Trottier Building (ENGTR) 3630 University St.  This is a very important meeting for Course Lecturers & Instructors as we are in a bargaining year, negotiating our first collective agreement.  We have had several negotiation sessions to date, and so will take this opportunity to provide an extensive bargaining update, and to answer any and all question and concerns.
We will also be holding elections for all positions on the Executive Committee: Unit Chair, Unit Vice-Chair/Chair of the Bargaining Committee, Grievance and Internal Officer, Mobilization Officer, and Communications Officer. The nomination period is now open, and we encourage all members who are interested in serving their union to submit their nomination.  Nominations require 5 members’ signatures, and can be submitted to the AGSEM office (3479 Peel St. 3rd Floor) or electronically via email to mail@agsem-aeedem.ca.  Below are the links for both the nomination sheet and the description of and compensation for these positions:

As you know, there was a General Assembly for all three units (Course Lecturers & Instructors, Teaching Assistants and Invigilators) last Thursday, September 27. The GA, however, had to be postponed because we did not have enough course lecturers to make quorum.  We’ve thus had to call a brief Special General Assembly (SGA), which is to take place toward the end of our meeting on the 12th.  After we have finished our bargaining updates and elections, the TAs and Invigilators will join our unit for a SGA so that we can tend to a few pressing affairs.  We have adjusted the scope our proposed agenda to accommodate the SGA.

You will find a draft agenda for our Unit Assembly here; input from the membership in regards to the agenda is more than welcome and can be sent to lecturers@agsem-aeedem.ca Members are also invited to propose motions to be brought forward to the Unit Assembly. Motions may be submitted to lecturers@agsem-aeedem.ca  no later than Wednesday, October 10th.  Note that as per AGSEM’s constitution, no motions may be added to the Special General Assembly segment of the agenda.
