Workday Issues Resolution with HR

The Union has worked hard with McGill to address all individual cases related to Workday, such as pay, applications, contracts and status. We can report that, while there still exist some inconveniences, almost all cases have been addressed as to the most important issue, pay. If anybody is still having pay issues, please contact us immediately.

One inconvenience that we are working on is the Onboarding process. We were informed by McGill that it is under review and they are looking into how to make the process simpler.

Another inconvenience is the issuing of contracts. We are working with McGill to resolve individual cases as they appear. But, rest assured that if you have been allocated a course and are teaching it, you do have a contract. The delayed paper/pdf contract does not take away any of your Collective Agreement rights.

Lastly, the issue of having “Terminated” as a status between semester contracts is more complicated. We have been reassured by many different sources that it is a term integrated within the core Workday system and used in every institution using Workday. Changing the term would require a process involving all Workday users / partners across North America accepting to make the change. This process is more complicated and may take a much longer time to be addressed. While we understand the irritation such a term represents, it has no legal impact on your continuous employment status. As long as you are on the Priority Points list, you are legally considered to be in continuous employment and all your Collective Agreement rights are protected.
