Temporary closure of Davis House as a preventive measure

This email is to inform you of the temporary closure of Davis House as a preventive measure taken by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS).

This decision was taken in response to recurrent concerns regarding the air quality in Davis House. The health, safety, and wellness of all remains FMHS’ priority.

FMHS is working to identify suitable alternate spaces for the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy teaching, research and administrative functions presently housed in Davis House.

A communication has been sent to all concerned, of which a copy is attached below.

We will keep you abreast of the evolution of the situation.

Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Yolande Wong, MBA, CRHA

Dear SPOT colleagues,

In response to recurrent concerns regarding the air quality in Davis House, in consultation with Dean Fellows and the FMHS leadership, we have decided to temporarily close the building to regular use by staff, faculty and students.

We are working now to identify suitable alternate space for the SPOT teaching, research and admin functions presently housed in Davis House. We are in a process with Marlene and Spencer and and the Building Infrastructure Management Office to determine what those re-arrangements will involve. Faculty members are encouraged to work from home or from other locations they have access to (where feasible), while the University and the FMHS teams identify suitable alternative space.

We have identified the space and activities affected and are operationalizing a working plan. Davis House will be placed on card reader access. Colleagues will be able to visit their office to pick up needed items, but otherwise are requested to not work from their offices. In order to retrieve items, a mask should be worn as a precautionary measure.

As far as teaching space goes, most of the impact will be on the activities scheduled in D20, D3 and DB6. We are reviewing the Davis room bookings with Marlene in order to identify needed relocations. If there are other ‘ad hoc’ expectations for the use of Davis, please do advise me and your program director so they can be included in the planning. I ask that you not contact Marlene directly please. If you have further questions, please reach out directly to me.

We appreciate that this is disruptive. All involved are working to resolve this quickly.

Best regards,
Laurie
