The Government of Quebec is investing $37 million to allow McGill to plan the transformation of the former Royal Victoria Hospital into one of the world’s leading hubs for learning, research and innovation in environmental sustainability and public policy. Three ministers made the announcement on Friday, June 22: Hélène David, Minister responsible for Higher Education; Gaétan Barrette, Minister of Health and Social Services; and Pierre Arcand, Chair of the Conseil du trésor.
MCLIU president Raad Jassim and Budget Officer Tariq Nizami attended a tree-planting ceremony to honour the memory of the victims of the January 29, 2017 attack at the Centre Culturel Islamique du Québec.
The ceremony, hosted by the Office of the Provost & Vice-Principal (Academic) and the Institute for Islamic Studies, took place beside Dawson Hall on June 18, 2018.
Amir, the son of one of the men who lost their lives on 29 January 2017, other members of the Centre Culturel Islamique du Québec and several distinguished guests including public officials, were among the guests invited; as well as the University’s faculty, students, and staff.
Initial deposit of Article 1-18
On June 6, the McGill Course Lecturers and Instructors Union (MCLIU) and McGill University met to begin negotiations with respect to the renewal of their collective agreement, which is currently set to expire on October 29, 2018.
The parties exchanged opening statements and initial proposals, and briefly explained their positions. They also discussed logistical items regarding future meetings, communications methods, etc. The parties aim to finalize a meeting calendar shortly, and to jointly determine the order in which key topics will be negotiated.
